About Boilers

Boilers heat water (or produce steam) to provide radiant heat through radiators, baseboard heaters, or radiant floor systems. This technology provides comfortable, even heat without the air movement of forced-air systems. Many older Bay Area homes have boiler systems, and some new homes incorporate radiant floor heating. Boiler heating feels different from forced air and is preferred by many homeowners.

How It Works

Boilers heat water using gas, oil, or electricity. Hot water circulates through pipes to radiators, baseboards, or radiant floor tubing where it releases heat. Cooled water returns to the boiler for reheating. Circulator pumps move water through the system. Zone valves or multiple circulators can create heating zones.
